A Siemens washing machine that ends the cycle with sodden clothes and water still in the drum is usually telling you one of two things: it cannot empty, or it cannot spin up to speed. Both have a short list of common causes you can check at home.

Safety first: unplug the machine before opening anything. Keep a towel and a shallow tray to hand, and remember water in the drum can still be hot.

Check these first

  1. An unbalanced or very small load. The machine senses imbalance and reduces or skips the spin. Redistribute heavy items such as towels and bedding, and avoid washing one heavy item on its own.
  2. Too much detergent. Excess suds can make the machine stop the spin to protect itself. Use the dose on the pack for your load size and water hardness, then run a rinse.
  3. A blocked pump filter. Many Siemens washers have a small flap at the bottom front with the pump filter behind it. Put the towel and tray down, drain the water using the emergency drain hose if your model has one, then unscrew the filter and clear coins, hair grips and lint. Refit it firmly.
  4. A kinked or badly placed drain hose. Check it is not squashed behind the machine and that the outlet height matches the range given in your manual.
  5. A door that is not fully locking. If the door will not close properly the machine will not spin. Check the seal for trapped clothing.
  6. Power supply dips. If the problem only appears at peak-demand times, mention it when you call; a voltage stabiliser may be worth considering.

When it is more than a quick fix

If the drum will not turn, spins very loudly, there is a burning smell, water is leaking, or the same fault code returns after a reset, the cause is more likely the drain pump, the motor, the drum bearings or the control module. Note the code shown and the model number (usually on the rating plate inside the door frame) before you call, so we can arrive with the right parts.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Siemens washing machine stop before the final spin?

Usually an unbalanced load, too much detergent or a blocked pump filter. Fixing those three resolves most cases.

How often should I clean the pump filter?

Every few months is a sensible routine, and more often with hard water, pets, or lint-heavy loads such as towels.

Is it safe to open the pump filter myself?

Yes, provided you switch off and unplug first and have a towel and tray ready, because water will come out. Do not open any other panels.
