Standing water in the bottom of a Siemens dishwasher after the cycle ends is one of the most common faults we are called out for across the UAE. Often the cause is simple enough to check yourself in ten minutes. Work through the list below in order and stop as soon as the water clears.

Safety first: switch the dishwasher off at the isolator or socket before you touch the filter or any hose, and take care with sharp items and hot water in the tub.

Seven checks you can do at home

  1. Make sure the cycle has really finished. Some programmes pause with water in the tub between stages. If the display still shows time remaining, let it run on.
  2. Clean the filter set. Twist out the filter in the base of the tub and rinse the coarse filter and fine mesh under the tap. Food scraps, labels and fruit stones collect here and block the flow to the pump.
  3. Look for a kinked drain hose. If the dishwasher was pulled out for cleaning or kitchen work, the hose behind it may be folded or crushed. Straighten it gently.
  4. Test the sink drain. Run the kitchen tap. If the sink also drains slowly, the blockage is in the sink trap or the pipework, not the dishwasher. In apartment buildings a blocked shared drain stack can cause the same symptom.
  5. Check the sink-trap connection. Where the drain hose joins the trap or standpipe, make sure the connector is not clogged with grease or debris.
  6. Look for limescale. Water is hard in many parts of the UAE, and scale builds up around the filters and pump area over time. If you can see it, a descaling cycle with a dishwasher-safe descaler, used exactly as the product instructs, can help.
  7. Reset the machine. Switch off at the isolator for a couple of minutes, switch back on and run a short rinse or the drain programme if your model has one.

When it is time to call a technician

If water is still standing after these checks, if the dishwasher hums but does not empty, or the display shows the same fault again after a reset, the drain pump or its electronics may need attention. Please do not dismantle the pump or any electrical parts yourself.

Our technicians repair Siemens dishwashers across the UAE with on-site diagnosis and genuine parts. See our Siemens dishwasher repair service, check the areas covered on our Siemens repair Dubai page, or call 058 803 6705 to book a visit.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Siemens dishwasher leave water at the bottom?

Most often a blocked filter, a kinked drain hose or a slow sink drain. If cleaning the filter and checking the hose does not help, the drain pump may be at fault.

Is a little water in the base normal?

A thin film in the sump area can be normal on some models. Standing water above the filter after the cycle has finished is not.

Can hard water cause drainage problems?

Yes. Limescale can build up around the pump and filters over time, which is more common where the water is hard.
